​Thank You Dr. James E. Hawkins​​ For 35 Years of Service!​​​​

Being student-centered, Dr. Hawkins is a professor and administrator who knows his students—past and present—by name. He has been the saving grace for many students by providing financial and moral support during their difficult times, reaching into his pocket to purchase food and paying utility bills for struggling students so they could study. He took each SJGC students’ completion of college personally, often providing a second chance for students to succeed.

After 35 years of distinguished service to the Florida A&M University School of Journalism & Graphic Communication, James E. Hawkins, Ph.D. retired on August 31, 2012. The faculty, staff, students, alumni, colleagues and industry partners say “Thank You” Dr. Hawkins for your commitment to education and your dedication to developing young communication professionals who are equipped to make an impact on the world.
